The Civic Plaques
Recording Beverley's History
The Civic Society has over the years erected many plaques throughout the town, to commemorate distinguished residents, some notable buildings and doorways, and the origin of the names for some roads.
Unlike London’s blue plaques ours are green!
To see more detail of these plaques click on the image below.
In addition The Society felt it important to record some history plaquesand notices erected by other organisations; again see these imagesbelow.
Beverley has many important historic Alms Houses which should be recorded also. Here are the plaques and information boards for these older properties.
Maison De Dieu (Morton Lane), Ann Routh Minster Moorgate, Warton’s Hospital (Minster Moorgate), Bede Buildings (Lairgate).
In more modern times this traditional charitable activity has been maintained by Beverley Consolidated Charity who are providing accommodation throughout the town for over 250 older people. These buildings are recorded with modern noticeboards on the relevant
properties. For further information see: https://beverleyhousingcharity.org/
Around the town there are a few other individually founded alms houses
which also have notices displayed.
