Coronation Gardens
The Civic Society has led a two-stage improvement of the Coronation Garden in North Bar Within to encourage greater public use of this central open space. The first stage aimed to provide a sensory area at the western end especially for the benefit of people with disabilities with the use of raised flower beds , selective planting additional seating and a water feature. It was made possible with grants and donations as well as support from the East Riding Council and Beverley Town Council. Completed in 2005, for the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the Garden, it is enjoyed by the public in general as well as visitors to the town.
To celebrate the Queen's Jubilee in 2013 further planting and seating, including an arrangement of three bespoke curved benches towards the eastern end of the garden, have been added. Again the project was financed from both public and community funds. The garden well used by all age groups as an easily accessible but peaceful oasis in a bustling town. The Designer for both projects was Richard Lancaster.
