Market Cross

The Town Council together with the Civic Society have been pressing for the full restoration of the Market Cross in Saturday Market.  The Town Arms have now been repainted in their correct colours, the Hotham and Warton arms rehung in the traditional places, In recognition of the 300th anniversary of the completion of the Market Cross and also the accession of George 1st in 1714, The Civic Society in coordination with the Town Council, Beverley Renaissance Partnership and ERYC, held a very successful celebration including many events, a particular highlight being the reading of the Riot Act from the Market Cross by the Mayor of Beverley, ending with a volley of muskets by a band of Georgian Militia.
